It takes its toll on everyone, not just the patient but also his/her loved ones, friends, colleagues and sometimes, followers. Yet Cancer has been around for ages and it still takes its toll on us physically, emotionally, mentally, financially, and spiritually.

Because Cancer is a very destructive disease to have – destructive to one’s health and personal relationships, not to mention that it also drains our finances – it is important to understand how to avoid the disease.

Avoid the disease? Well in this day and age, we can somehow predict your chances of developing cancer by the lifestyle you live. For instance, previous studies on cancer had linked the disease to smoking, excessive exposure to ultraviolet rays, exposure to radiation (from Wi-Fi, cell phones, cell phone towers, etc.) which generate either brain cancer, skin cancer or lung cancer, etc.

However, recent incidences of cancer and further studies on the nature of the disease had linked its existence to our gastrointestinal system. Makes sense though! The function of our gastrointestinal system is to process the food we eat, distribute it evenly throughout our body, and get rid of leftover toxins from the system. So it just makes perfect sense that whatever happens to our body is a result of the food we eat and how we treat our body.

So if you put in rubbish in your body, then you get rubbish also as a result of that action.

The Cancer-Causing Foods

Based on more than 16 years of treating cancer patients and concocting our own all-natural, plant-based remedies and treatments, I can safely say that there are certain foods we need to avoid so we can cut our cancer risk by as much as 50%. See the list we identify here:

Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs)

More than 90% of our corn and soy are now genetically modified. In the Philippines, experts say that more than 50% of the products we sell in a grocery store has been exposed to pesticides or have built-in pesticides which is a regular feature of GMO crops now.

I suggest finding “organic food” which are becoming easier to source here in the Philippines. Thanks to the many small-scale growers of organic fruits and vegetables.

Microwaveable Popcorn

A snack that is associated with watching your fav movie at the cinema is a culprit and a potential source of lung cancer. The artificial butter flavoring that Microwaveable popcorn has contains diacetyl which is basically toxic to humans. Even the fumes released when the artificial butter flavoring is being microwaved is also toxic to humans.

Grilled Red Meat

When you grill red meat until it’s pretty well done, you change the molecular and chemical composition of the meat and produce a carcinogenic chemical called acrylamide. Plus, processed meats like hotdogs and deli meats emit a carcinogen called heterocyclic aromatic amines. Better have your meats boiled or baked in a pan than have them grilled.

Canned Goods

Why eat food that is canned when you can always have them fresh? Canned food usually comes with a chemical called bisphenol-A (BPA) which has been tested to genetically change the brain cells of rats. Opt for fresh or frozen vegetables or fruits so that you don’t have to eat added ingredients that pose health hazards to your family.

Carbonated and Soda Beverages

Soda is a major cancer-causing food and proven to be so for the last 2 decades. These beverages contain high-fructose corn syrup, dyes, and a slew of other chemicals which are bad for your health. They have no nutritional value. Also, if identified to be a “diet” product, it may even contain aspartame which is like poison to human cells.

Smoked, Salted and Pickled Foods

These kinds of products contain preservatives like nitrates to prolong shelf life. Like the additives used in processed foods, these nitrates accumulate in the body in the long-term. Thus, may lead to diseases like cancer and other debilitating diseases. Cook them further at higher temperatures and the nitrates become nitrites which pose more harm to the body.

Refined Sugar

The biggest cancer-causing food is sugar, particularly high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and other refined sugars. Refined sugars and foods made from them are the sources of big insulin spikes as well as feeding the growth of cancer cells. Since sugar in the US is made from GMO sugar beets, it probably will be a lot healthier to eat organic honey, coconut sugar, or maple sugar – still in small quantities.

Farmed Fish

Commercially raised fish like salmon or tilapia in the Philippines are usually grown in crowded environments. In the US, over 60% of the salmon comes already from farming operations and are treated with pesticides, antibiotics, and other carcinogenic chemicals. Farmed fish also do not have as much omega-3 fatty acids as wild salmon or other fish caught in the open seas. Better eat fish caught in the open seas with their gills and scales on.

White Flour

Remember – when your flour is refined, its nutritional values are stripped. Then, it is bleached with chlorine gas to make it look attractive to customers. Moreover, the glycemic level of white flour is high, which may spike your insulin levels. Since it is carbohydrates, then converted to sugars by the body – a surefire formula for inviting cancer into your life.

Hydrogenated Oils

These oils are chemically extracted, chemically treated and additional chemicals put in to change or enhance the taste and smell. They also contain more omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3 oils which are not good for the body.

Well, that’s all I can say right now. Do consider our list when you go grocery shopping. If you have other tips or other items to add here, just share the knowledge in the comments section below!
