Your Depression is Not Caused by a Chemical Imbalance! It is an Allergic Reaction to Inflammation
Did you know that the antidepressant drugs market in the US alone is valued at US$10 BILLION DOLLARS? This antidepressant market is based on the long-term theory that people with depression have a chemical imbalance in themselves and that low serotonin levels cause anxiety and depressive disorders.
However, the chemical imbalance theory was never true. In fact, no experience has been shown that shows that there is an “imbalance” of any neurotransmitters or any other brain chemicals. The whole concept is outright hypothetical.
Over the last 10 years, there have been many attempts to disprove this chemical imbalance theory. According to David D. Burns of “When Panic Attacks”, the chemical imbalance theory was concocted by drug marketing people. It is due to the hefty annual profits these drug companies get from the sale of antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications.
A sizable portion of the American Psychiatric Association’s budget is also subsidized by these drug companies. As well as a humongous amount of research and education at medical schools.
We at Dr. Farrah Agustin-Bunch’s Natural Medical Center agree that drug research should be focused more on getting to the bottom of anxiety and depression and finding out more natural ways of solving this disease without having to go to too much conventional medical treatment.
Inflammation and Cancer
Very recent research has revealed that depression is an “allergic reaction to inflammation”.
Inflammation is a natural reaction of the body to infection, injury or some foreign invasion of a pathogen. When inflammation is triggered, the body produces many chemicals such as cytokines. When our body is triggered, the body pumps various cells and proteins to the site through the bloodstream. This inclueds the cytokines, a class of proteins that facilitate intercellular communication.
It just so happens that people with depression also are full of cytokines.
Chronic inflammation may be caused by high sugar diets, high trans-fat in the body, obesity, unhealthy diets in general, etc. Even the standard American diet promotes inflammation due to an abundance of inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids and an outright lack of Omega-3 fatty acids.
The Role of Gluten in Inflammation
The cause of inflammation is gluten (carbohydrates). When gluten or the carbo enters the intestinal lining, it can enter the blood and eventually reach the brain where it will cause inflammation. Eventually, the inflammation in the brain will develop into a neurological disorder such as Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s Disease, schizophrenia, seizures, etc.
On the other hand, Amylase trypsin inhibitors (ATIs for short) can also trigger an inflammatory immune response in the GI tract by stimulating immune cells.
To conclude this article, we encourage more studies to be made in the area of depression. Together with on how certain herbs and plants can be used to alleviate this disease among those who are suffering from depression and other neurological disorders.
